R:
- R Grand Feature Freeze (alpha): R 2.8.0 moves to release branch in R's svn repository.
BioC:
- All BioC package developers should start using R 2.8.0 for testing their packages.
October 1
BioC:
- BioC Grand Feature Freeze (alpha): no new packages added to BioC release roster.
- Release candidate of annotation packages built and posted to devel annotation data repository
October 8
BioC:
- BioC Feature Freeze (beta): no API changes to BioC.
- Deadline for BioC packages passing R CMD build and check without error.
October 15
BioC:
- BioC Code Freeze (release candidate). We will be building release repositories and testing. Only "show-stopper" bugs will be fixed where show-stopper is defined by the release team (not package maintainer).
- Deadline for packages passing R CMD build and check without warning. Some warnings will be accepted, clarification on the bioc-devel mailing list.
- Annotation data packages finalized.
October 20
R:
- Estimated release date for R 2.8.0
BioC:
- Creation of the BioC 2.3 release branch. Development can resume on trunk, but changes will not be part of the release.
- Build final release repositories.
- Testing install scripts, GUI installation.

BioC:
- Release of Bioconductor 2.3
